Me, Myself and Android

Today I started work on my Android dev unit for uni. I’ve been putting it off for so long as the thought of coding an Android game from scratch scares the hell out of me.

The lecturer originally said I could use Unity and it’s Android exporter, however I’ve not had much luck in the Unity department. And less than two months is certainly not enough time to carry on trying to figure it out. And also, in the Unit Information Guide for this unit, it never explicitly says “has to be implemented in Java”.

So today I downloaded Construct 2, with the idea of building a quick, rough prototype to show my lecturer tomorrow and ask if I can use the Personal Edition to then export to Android. 

Well, the prototype is done, bar a few instructions missing. (Because I’m an idiot like that!) I built it in two hours, without ever having used Construct 2 before. It did help that Construct 2 is event-based like MMF2, which I’m used to. But that’s where the similarities end. 

So my first experience with Construct 2 was very enjoyable, and successful. And here’s hoping that my lecturer allows me to continue using it!
